International Poetry Workshop

The PG and Research Department of English,  All Saints' College, Thiruvananthapuram organized a series of workshop under the banner, Creative Engagements.

The first workshop of the series was on poetry and was conducted by the famous Tibetan poet and activist, Mr. Tenzin Tsundue on 4 February 2020. The workshop was coordinated by Ms. Sapna Srinivas and Ms. Celina James, Assistant Professors of the department. The poet interacted with the students and helped them channelise their sense of the poetic and asked the students to discover the delight in finding poetry in the everydayness of life.

The second workshop was on fiction and was conducted by Mr. Andrey Kurkov, renowned Ukranian writer. Mr. Kurkov gave the students the full benefit of his experience in crafting narratives as he took them through experiments in creating characters and imbuing them with a sense of motive and attributing consequences to those motives. The session was engaging as students tried to create magic with the world placed at their disposal and sought to create stories out of situations given by Mr. Kurkov. He also answered questions on techniques and methods of writing and on battling the temptations of influences. The workshop was coordinated by Dr. Kavitha N. and Ms. Joveeta Justin, Assistant Professors of the department. The workshops will be continued with locally sourced resource persons who will mentor the students further. The aim is to help create works that will be published in the form of anthologies. The workshops were conceptualized by Dr. Sonya J. Nair, Head of the Department.
