The Post Graduate Department of Environmental Sciences in All Saints’ College offers Masters Degree in Environmental Sciences to impart scholarly proficiency in theory and practice of areas of Environmental Sciences. This course was started as a self-financing course during the year 2000. By sufficient support provided by the Government of Kerala and by the appointment of 4 faculty members, the college uplifted the course into a regular one, during October 2011. The curriculum as well as syllabi of PG program is at par with the national standards of learning and skill development. Currently there are 13 students each in I and II year M.Sc. respectively. The Department has elicited high results with a 100% pass every year and also shaped up NET qualified students. There is enough potential for this Department with a highly competent group of students. The aim at present is to upgrade itself from a Post Graduate Department to a full-fledged research institution.
The Department also has Collaborative Research Project undertakings with the International and Inter University Centre for Natural Resources Management (IIUCNRM), under University of Kerala. Linkages with other Governmental agencies such as Department of Environment and Climate Change (DOECC) and the Kerala State Biodiversity Board (KSBB) with the aim of organizing activities related to environmental conservation, generating public awareness, addressing environmental issues and protection of the environment, at large.
The Department regularly hosts research talks and seminars, offers Consultancy services and the faculty members and students are involved in research activities involving high societal applicability. The Department conducts training programs for the CSIR-UGC, SET and NET examinations. The department has strong rapport with potential employers and the opportunities of employment are routinely displayed.
The Department is actively involved in “outreach activities” through Biodiversity Club and Bhoomithra Sena Club and was endowed with the prestigious ‘Prakrithi Mithra’ award instituted by Department of Forests and Wildlife, Government of Kerala, in recognition of its initiatives in the fields of environmental conservation and awareness. Faculty members of the Department has also potentially proven track records and two of the faculty members have been awarded with FLAIR Fellowship for undergoing training in their specific field in reputed Universities of United Kingdom (Nottingham Trent University and Sheffield Hallam University). All the faculty members of the department are actively engaged in research with three Major (UGC and KSCSTEsponsored) and one Minor Research Projects to their credit. Academically, the faculty and students of the Department has brought out about 120 Research Papers published in Journals of International and national repute, over the past four years.
