ZOOLOGY ASSOCIATION
Zoology Association activities for the academic year was inaugurated by Dr.Pugazhendhi, I.F.S on 14, October 2015 at 10.30 am in the Audio Visual Room.
TALK / LECTURES
A speech on “Biodiversity and the Importance of Conservation” was delivered by Dr.Pugazhendhi, I.F.S for the students of the Department of Zoology on 14, October 2015. He also had a one-hour interactive discussion with the students.
A talk on “Importance of Mental Health and Mental Illness seen in Humans” was delivered by Dr.Kiran.P.S., Psychiatrist, Nodal Officer, National Mental Health Programme for the students of Open Course “Public Health and Hygiene” on 10, September, 2015. The programme created an opportunity for the students to interact with a medical professional and clear their doubts.

2-DAY WORKSHOP - “EDUFEST-2015”
· Dr.D.Sherly organized a 2-day workshop “Edufest-2015” sponsored by the Department of Fisheries on 9 and 10, September, 2015. Mother Mary Elma, Manager, All Saints’ College, Dr.Sheela Mary Xavier, Principal, All Saints’ College were present for the inaugural ceremony. Workshop was conducted in the Recreation Hall, and the sessions were handled by Sri Antony.E.A., Consultant, Career Guidance, Smt. P.Kala, C.P.O., Social Welfare Board and Smt. Ajanthakumari. R.S., Fisheries Development Officer. The main aim of this workshop was to create awareness among the students receiving the Fisheries Scholarship about the scopes and ways for higher education.
FACULTY DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMME
· Dr. Dhanalekshmy.T.G. attended the Refresher Course on Life Science from 25, June to 15, July, 2015 organized by the UGC- Academic Staff College, Kariavattom, TVM.
· Smt. Divya Grace Dilip attended the Special Winter School Programme from 29, October 2015 to 18, November, 2015 organized by the UGC- Academic Staff College, Kariavattom, TVM.
RESOURCE PERSON
· Dr.D.Sherly was the convener and resource person of the 2-day workshop “Edufest-2015” conducted at All Saints’ College on 9 and 10, September, 2015, sponsored by the Department of Fisheries, Kerala State.
· Dr.D.Sherly was a resource person in the two-day UGC sponsored National Seminar organized by the Department of Zoology, Iqbal College, Peringammala, TVM on 14-15, October, 2015. She delivered a talk on “Fresh Water Ornamental Fishes of Kerala”.
· Dr.D.Sherly was a resource person in the five-day workshop WOFCAM-III-2016 organised by the Department of Zoology, All Saints’ College from 9 -13, February, 2016. She handled a technical session about “Training on Aquarium Tank Construction”.
· Smt. Divya Grace Dilip was selected as Faculty Minister of Natural Sciences in the All India Students Energy Parliament- Global Energy Parliament (Consultative Status to UN-ECOSOC), State Secretariat Assembly Hall, Trivandrum, 25th Feb, 2016
5-DAY WORKSHOP – WOFCAM-III-2016
A 5-day workshop “WOFCAM-III-2016” sponsored by the KSCSTE and Department of Fisheries was organized by the Department of Zoology, All Saints’ College from 9 -13, February, 2016. The programme was inaugurated by Mr. K. Sreekumar, Councilor, Chakka Ward. Dr.Sheela Mary Xavier, Principal, ASC delivered the presidential address. Felicitations were delivered by Sri. Vanchiyoor.T.Babu, Chairman, Development Standing Committie, Trivandrum Corporation and Smt. Hima Siji, Councillor, Karikkakom Ward. Thirty unemployed women from the neighboring village of the college and the students of the add-on-course participated in the workshop. Technical sessions were handled by Mrs. Mary Ann and Dr.P.S.Sivaprasad, Department of Fisheries, Dr.K.G.Manju, Mar Ivanios College, TVM, Dr.Eapen Jacob, Govt. Women’s College, TVM, Dr Jayaprakas, Amity University, New Delhi, Dr.Sheeja, Govt. College, Ootty, TN. The chief guest for the valedictory session was Ms. Lathy, Additional Director, Department of Fisheries. Sr.Molly, Management representative delivered the felicitation speech.
AQUA SHOW -2016
A 3-day exhibition on Ornamental Marine and Fresh water fishes was jointly organized by the Department of Fisheries and Department of Zoology, ASC from 19-21, January, 2016 in the College Recreation Hall. The aim of this exhibition was to enhance the knowledge of the students and science enthusiasts about this rapidly growing field.
INTER-COLLEGIATE QUIZ COMPETITION
· An Inter-Collegiate Quiz Competition on Ornamental Fishes was organized on 20, January, 2016 at 11 a.m. in the Recreation Hall, ASC. Dr. G.Gopakumar, Emeritus Scientist, CMFRI, Vizhinjam, TVM lead the quiz program. Merlin Mathew and Gopika G A, the team from Mar Ivanios College, TVM won the 1st prize of Rs.1500/-. The 2nd prize and 3rd prize were won by the teams from the Department of Zoology, ASC with a cash prize of Rs. 1000/- and 500/- respectively.
CHARITY SERVICE / FOOD FEST
A food fest was jointly organized by the students of the Department and SAF from 19-21, January, 2016. The students donated the money raised from the programme for charity service. Three ceiling fans are being purchased and are to be donated to the Karikkakom Government School on 28, March, 2016.
FIELD STUDY TRIP
· A field study trip was organized for the SEM VI students from 17-21, December, 2015 to visit the Eravikulam National park and Mattupetty Indo-Swiss Project at Munnar. The students also visited the Theme Park, Wonderla at Kochi. Dr.D.Sherly and Dr.C.Udayakala (Department of Malayalam) accompanied the forty students.
