ZOOLOGY ASSOCIATION
The activities of the Zoology Association for the academic year 2013-14 started with an Inaugural programme conducted on 2 August at 10.30 a.m in the College Recreation Hall. Dr. A. Abraham, an expert in Neuro Linguistic Programming inaugurated the function. He delivered a lecture with a power point presentation on “Stress Management and Communication Skills”. The programme was really interesting and helpful and gave an opportunity for the students to understand more about the ways to reduce stress and also to improve their communication skills which is very important for their future.
TALK FOR OPEN COURSE
A two hour lecture was organized for the students registered for the Open Course I on the topic “Public Health and Hygiene” on 22 October. Dr. Reji Jose, Professor of Community Medicine, Sree Gokulam Medical College and Research Foundation, Venjaramoodu, Thiruvananthapuram was the resource person. The lecture detailed about the various aspects of health, illness and hygiene. The interactive discussion session gave an opportunity for the students to clear their doubts regarding mental illness, drug abuse and vaccination with a medical professional.
2-DAY INTERNATIONAL SEMINAR
A two-day International Seminar on “Advances in Aquaculture Technologies” was organized by the Department of Zoology on 18 and 19 July, 2013 in the College sponsored by the Kerala State Council for Science, Technology and Environment and the Central Bank of India, All Saints’ College Extension Counter. This programme was initialized and shouldered by Dr.D.Sherly and was conducted in connection with the Golden Jubilee Year of All Saints’ College. The inaugural function was conducted in the College Recreation Hall and the scientific paper presentations were done in the AV Hall. The whole programme was compeered by Smt.Divya Grace Dilip and an overall arrangement was done by Dr.Siny.G.Benjamin. Welcome speech was delivered by Dr. Dhanalekshmy.T.G., Head of the Department of Zoology. The International Seminar was inaugurated by Sri.K.Babu, the Honorable Minister for Fisheries, Ports and Excise, Government of Kerala. Prof. Smt. Susan Edel Lopez, Principal of the college delivered the presidential address. Sr. Molly, the Management representative, Smt. Mini Antony IAS, Director of the Department of Fisheries and Public Relations Department, Government of Kerala and Dr. Sri.K.K.Ramachandran, Member Secretary, Kerala State Council for Science, Technology and Environment delivered felicitation speeches.About seventy delegates from different States of India as well from abroad were present for the inaugural function. Students of various educational Institutions of the State of Kerala also attended the programme. “Journal of Basic and Applied Biology” a special issue published exclusively for All Saints’ College Golden Jubilee year was released by Smt. Mini Antony IAS, Director of the Department of Fisheries and Public Relations Department, Government of Kerala on this occasion. Two eminent personalities namely Prof. Dr.P.Natarajan, Director, Centre for Aquaculture Training, Education, Extension and Research, Ambo University, Ethiopia and Dr.P. Kesavanath, Director of Extension, Kerala University of Fisheries and Ocean Studies, Panangad, Kochi were honored with “ponnada” and mementos. Thirty scientific papers were presented by scientists, faculties and research scholars on various topics in the field of aquaculture which is significant in the present scenario. The seminar also created a platform for the students to interact with these eminent experienced personalities who also shared their work experience in this field and also explained to them about the openings and scopes in this field for the upcoming generation.
ADD-ON-COURSE
Dr. D. Sherly, the Co-ordinator for the UGC sponsored Add-on-course on “Ornamental Fish culture and Aquarium Management” is continuing successfully the Certificate/Diploma/Advanced diploma in an add-on orientation course along with a conventional degree in Science/Arts/Commerce.
FACULTY DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMME
Dr.D.Sherly attended the Refresher Course sponsored by UGC and organised by the Academic Staff College, Karyavattom, Thiruvananthapuram from 28 May to 17 June.
Dr. Dhanalekshmy.T.G., gave an hour presentation about the details regarding Semester and Grading for the SEM I students on July 2 in the New Auditorium, ASC during the orientation programme offered for the SEM I students.
TRAINING PROGRAMME
Dr.Siny.G.Benjamin attended a training programme at “Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Biotechnology from June 17 to July 5.
UGC-Minor Research Project
Dr.Dhanalekshmy.T.G. completed the UGC Minor Research Project “Analysis of drinking water and health survey of three selected sites in Thiruvananthapuram District” and submitted the report.
- On July 17, for the Documentary Film being produced in connection with the Golden Jubilee Celebrations, Mr. Lenin Rajendran, the Film producer and his team came to the Zoology Laboratory and recorded the student activities in the laboratory, the details of the Museum and the infrastructural facilities available in the Laboratory.
- Smt.Divya Grace Dilip was the teacher convenor and treasurer of the All Saints College, First Inter Collegiate Festival ASCENSIO.
PTA MEETING
P.T.A meeting of the SEM III students was organized on November, 21 by the Class teacher Smt. Divya Grace Dilip.
FIELD STUDY TRIP
Smt.Divya Grace Dilip and Dr. Dhanalekshmy.T.G., took the SEM V students for a one-day field study trip to Thenmala on February 14, 2014.
