ZOOLOGY ASSOCIATION

The activities of the Zoology Association for the academic year 2010-11 was inaugurated on 16^th July, 2010 by Dr. Maya Vincent, Senior Consultant, Dr.K.Yogiraj Centre for Dermatology and Cosmetology, Pattom, Thiruvananthapuram. She delivered a lecture on “Ecstasy and Agony of Cosmetology” an interesting topic widely discussed among the youth. She  explained in detail the concepts of beauty existing and about the drawbacks and side effects caused due to excessive usage of cosmetics without sufficient knowledge about its advantages and disadvantages which was really very informative for the students.

FIELD STUDY TRIP

Smt. Siny. G. Benjamin and Smt Divya Grace Dilip took the final year students on 27^th July for a one-day field study trip to Thenmala Ecotourism spot. 

EXHIBITION

A two-day exhibition was organized in the Zoology Department on 6 December, 2010 focusing on the topic “BIODIVERSITY” rightly when United Nations has declared 2010, the International Year of Biodiversity. The aim was to boost the awareness of the importance of biodiversity, how seriously it is threatened, and the implications for human wellbeing among the students. Dr. Ramakumar, Professor of Surgery and Head Division of Veterinary Medicine & Surgery and an eminent and experienced person in environmental and animal behaviour studies inaugurated the exhibition and also delivered a lecture on “Biodiversity trends”. The students displayed a variety of models based on themes like “Biosphere reserves”, “Pond Succession”, “Global Warming”, “Deforestation and Afforestation” ,”Avian Diversity”, “Butterfly Park” and “Ornamental Fish Diversity”. An added attractive feature of the exhibition was the display of a wide variety of live ornamental fishes and rare domestic birds

ZOOLOGY ASSOCIATION ACTIVITES

-  Dr.D.Sherly and 14 second year degree students attended the training programme on Mushroom cultivation organized by the Agriculture Department, Kerala State at “Koonpura”, Kaimanam, Thiruvananthapuram on 17^th June, 2010.

        -  Dr.Siny.G.Benjamin and Dr.D.Sherly participated in a workshop on “Biodiversity                        Education” organized in connection with Indian Biodiversity Congress held at                             Thiruvananthapuram from 27^th December 2010 - 1^st January  2011.
