Departmental Activities 2018-2019

  • The activities of Economic Association for the year 2018-19 were inaugurated by Dr. Beena PL, Associate Professor, Center for Developmental studies,Thiruvananthapuram. The inaugural function was followed by a talk by Dr. Beena P L on the topic 'Understanding the current stagnation in the Indian industrial sector'on 11 October 2018.

 

  • On 12 October 2018 an exhibition was organized by the Department of Economics on the theme ‘Kerala Floods: The life after havoc’. The function was inaugurated by Dr. Caroline Beena Mendez, the Principal, AllSaints College.

  

 

  • Followed by Exhibition a small documentary was viewed on Kerala floods prepared by first year students of Economics on 12 October 2018.
  • III rd DC Economics students celebrated Kerala Piravi on Ist November 2018 and conducted a talk on “Kerala Economy in the midst of restructuring”.

Extension activities 

  •  As part of Kerala State Literacy Mission students went to Karikkakam High school and took a class on communicative English.
Departmental Activities 2016-2017
  • The activities of Economics Association for the year 2016-17 was inaugurated by Prof. Jose Sebastian, Associate Professor, GIFT.
  • The Economics Dept along with K.N Panikar Foundation conducted computer classes for the interested students of the college. Instructors from Panikar  Foundation  took computer  classes. National Digital Literacy Mission issued certificates to students who cleared the online examination successfully. 

  • Prof. Mary Allice G. was the chairman of the IV semester Centralized Valuation camp for Economics.
  • The National Literacy Mission is the extension activity offered by economics department .On behalf of this mission classes were taken on women empowerment and IT literacy.
  • DC 1 economics formed a peer activity group named Helping hand they teach students who are poor in learning and they frequently did group learning in free hours . 
  • DC 1 economics students formed social service group amoung students to help the needy students’ .They named the group as Thanal .They collected money from students who volunteered to donate.
  • DC 1 economics students group Thanal took part in Food distribution activity along with NSS Volunteers during January.
  • Prof. Mary Allice G. was the exam chairman of the second and fourth semester Centralized Valuation for Economics during October. 
  • Jiji vijayan, Assistant Professor in Department of Economics attended orientation programme of UGC Human Resource Development Center (HRDC), University of Kerala, Kariavattom from 04 January 2017 to 31 January 2017 
  • Jiji vijayan, Assistant Professor in Department of Economics gets sanction for Faculty Development programme on 31 March 2017 to complete PhD programme in Economics under the guidance of Dr. P J Christabell, Assistant professor in Department of Futures Studies, University of Kerala

Women on wings

  • In connection with Women on Wing club activity, students are given vocational training in activities like Agarbathi, Candle, Flower and Umbrella making. 

  

  • Organic vegetable farm is maintained by the students of the department under the guidance of Prof. Mary Allice G.

 

Departmental Activities 2013-2014

The Economics Association was inaugurated by Prof S Narayanan on 12th August 2013.This was followed by a talk on the Structural Changes of Indian Economy. He also cleared the doubts of students on the higher education and career opportunities in Economics.

A talk was organized by the dept on the Impact of Rupee Depreciation on Indian Economy. A debate was organized on the Effectiveness of Monetary Policy in curbing Inflation.

  • A talk on the Feasibility of Vizhinjam Project was organized jointly by the departments of Economics and History.
  • Nanditha Mathew, former student of the Department, interacted with the students and cleared their doubts on the career opportunities after PG in Economics.

A UGC Sponsored National Seminar on Women Empowerment –Problems and prospects was also organized jointly by the depts of Economics and History.
