KRIYA Literary Fest organized by the Literary and Debating Clubs and the Sixth Sense Quiz Club under the aegis of the Departments of English, Malayalam,Hindi and French. The Mathrubhumi Campus Literary Quiz was held in association with the Sixth Sense Quiz Club and the Dept.of English. Mr. Biju Mohan was the Quiz Master . First Prize : Krishnapriya C.P & Remya Dharmrajan of Semester I M.A English Second Prize : S Neelanjana & Gauthamy Murali of DC II English Literature. Mathrubhumi and the Conveners of the MBIFL in association with the Dept. of English conducted a Campus Interview for Volunteers for the MBIFL 2020. 43 students were selected for the same. |

The Department of English organized a workshop titled ‘Creative Engagements in Poetry’. The first session was handled by the renowned Tibetan Rebel Poet Tenzin Tsundue . He spoke about the nuances of Fine Writing and taught the participants the art of writing Poetry. 41 students attended the workshop. Faculty members , Ms. Sapna Srinivas and Ms. Celina James were the Co-ordinators of the same. The Workshop Titled ‘Creative Engagements in Fiction’ was organized by the Department of English with the first session being handled by the famous Ukranian novelist Andrey Yuryevich Kurkov. He spoke about the inticacies of writing and the author’s need to have essential lived experiences .Faculty members Dr. Kavitha N and Ms. Joveeta Justin were the Co-ordinators of the Workshop. There were 48 participants. The second session of the Poetry Workshop had Dr. Lakshmipriya , notable poet and novelist as the Speaker. The Second Session of the workshop on Fiction was handled by Mr. Sreekumar, famous Short Story Writer, Educationist and Critic. Arshia Ann Joy of Semester II B.A English Literature won the First Prize in The Essay Writing Competition held at Emmanuel College in honour of the Quadranscentennial Celebrations of Archbishop Sossai Pakiam . Faculty members of the Dept.of English and the PG students attended the International Colloquium on Sexualities: Pasts, Presents and Futures organized by The Centre for Women’s Studies, University of Kerala in Collaboration with the Dept of English, All Saints’ College. |

Literary Club Activities

· Club members participated in the National Integration Day Competitions and won prizes for Essay Writing. The winners are Surya Nandana of DC 3 Literature and Mariya Raj of DC 1 Literature who won the First prize and Keerthy Moses of DC 3 Literature who won the Second Prize .
· Club members participated in the essay competitions organized by the Central Bank of India on 02-11-2018 in connection with ERADICATE CORRUPTION: BUILD A NEW INDIA programme. Winners are Bhadra R Nath (First Prize), Devi S (Second Prize), Sameera S (Third Prize) and Ancy V.S (Consolation Prize).
· Members also attended the competitions organized by the State Bank of India in connection with the National Awareness Week from 31st October to 3 November 2018. Sameera S of DC III Literature won the First prize for Essay Writing Competition and Bhadhra R Nath won the Second Prize.
DEBATE CLUB ACTIVITIES :

· Members of the Club also participated in the SPEAK FOR INDIA Competition organized by the Nehru Foundation on 27-11-2018. A.L Abhirami, Bhadhra R Nath, Devi .S and Gadha .U Thampi of DC 3 Literature were selected for the City Level Competition. Abhirami A.L and Bhadra R Nath qualified for the Zonal Competitions conducted in Quilon.
· Club members won prizes for English and Malayalam recitation competitions conducted by B.N.V College, Thiruvallam as a part of the Cultural Fest “AALAP “on 28-09-2018. The winners are Oliviya Saju of D. C II English Literature and Devika M.G of D.C I History
COMPETITIONS:
· Various competitions such as Essay Writing, Versification, Elocution, Recitation, Skit, Poster Making and Collage were conducted in February 2019 under the aegis of the Clubs as part of the Kriya Competitions.
· Selected students attended the University Youth Festival.
· Devi S and Bhadra R Nath of DCIII Literature secured the Third prize in English Debate Competition at the University Youth Festival.

LITERARY AND DEBATE CLUB

The clubs function under the aegis of Smt. Celina James and Dr.Kavitha N of the Dept. Of English. The clubs serve as platforms to pick out talented youngsters with a flair for literary activities like versification, recitation, story writing, debate and essay writing. The students are given encouragement to participate in the various competitions conducted by the college as well in the various intercollegiate competitions. They are also given instructions which may help them hone their talents in a better direction. For those interested in bettering their speech skills, the Debate club offers debates and free discussion panels to broaden their minds and sharpen their reasoning
THEATRE CLUB
The Theatre Club comprises of students from various streams who have a love for the stage. The club helps the students understand their potential and also provides them with an insight into the intricacies of acting, direction, script writing and so on. Students are given an opportunity to develop their personality and also acquire a greater degree of self-confidence. Essential qualities for the stage and in a broader sense, for life, such as discipline, determination, focus, team spirit, respect and so on are instilled in the students through the various activities organized by the club. The club is coordinated by the teachers of the Department of English.
